NSW: Man who allegedly punched police after breath test charged

A man police breath-tested in Sydney's south west for drink driving has been chargedwith assault after he allegedly punched an officer.

Bankstown Police stopped the vehicle in Milperra at around 3.50am (AEST) and breath-testedthe 48-year-old man.

Police say after the Hillsdale man tested positive for drink driving he allegedly puncheda police officer and ran south along Milperra Road.

Two officers chased after him and caught him when the man allegedly hit one of theofficers in the head.

Police say they used capsicum spray to try and calm the man before taking him to BankstownPolice Station.

He was later charged with driving with a low range prescribed concentration of alcohol,two counts of assault and one count of resisting arrest.

The man has been granted bail and is due to appear in Bankstown Local Court on May 1.
