NT: Up to 450 people to be airlifted from floods today
Up to 400 people will be airlifted from the
flooded Victoria River region in the Northern Territory today, where a state of emergency
was declared yesterday.
Police say fourteen aircraft are expected to make 52 flights for the Kalkaringi airstrip
to Katherine, 350km to the north-east before nightfall.
A total of 550 evacuees will be sheltered in tents in the Katherine Showground tonight,
and may reman there for weeks.
