Tech: Virtual holiday island launched
A web developer has launched the first virtual holiday island for Australia's three
million singles.
Internet island Bompi -- which has taken 12 months and $1.4 million to develop -- features
on-line chat facilities, a gift shop, restaurant guide and casino.
And a series of Bompi events such as boat cruises and dinner parties are being planned
in major Australian cities to allow visitors to the site to meet each other in person.
Bompi Australia managing director CHRISTIAN CHRISTIANSEN says the site will be monitored
around the clock to ensure its integrity, with false profiles, such as men posing as women,
and pornographic images banned.
He's hoping to enjoy the same success as that of the original Danish site, which had
more than 6,000 members three months after its launch.
The site can be accessed at www.bompi.com.au
