NSW:NSW gov to do more to protect wetlands

The Wilderness Society says the New South Wales government must do more to protect
the state's wetlands.

The call .. marking World Wetlands Day .. says 50 per cent of the state's wetlands
have been lost since European colonisation of Australia.

The society's CHRIS DALEY says despite the widespread destruction .. there are still
12 officially listed sites in New South Wales.

One of these .. the Hunter Estuary Wetlands .. is home to numerous endangered species
and until recently was under threat from the now cancelled Tillegra Dam proposal.
